Christine Clement
Christine Clement has no doubt that Roswell Park saved her life. Her body was battling two types of cancer simultaneously — one was discovered due to the thoroughness of her care team. That’s what inspired her to become a Dr. Roswell Park Society member.
“If my contribution can help one doctor find one thing that saves one patient, it’s worth it,” she said. “And hopefully, it’ll save hundreds or thousands of patients.”
In late 2010, Christine found out she had stage 1 uterine cancer and her gynecologist wanted to start planning for a hysterectomy. Christine’s sister, a local healthcare professional and fierce advocate for her sister, guided Christine to seek a second opinion with the experts at Roswell Park who recommended she also have her ovaries removed.
Christine chose to become a patient at Roswell Park and underwent surgery under the care of now-retired Chair of Gynecologic Oncology Shashikant Lele, MD. Pathologists at Roswell Park discovered afterward that in addition to the uterine cancer, Christine had stage 1 ovarian cancer as well. Now, crediting this team with her life, she has made steps to ensure this incredible work can continue.
“If Dr. Lele hadn’t literally saved my life, I wouldn’t have been here to earn and save money,” she said. “What good is it if I don’t give back to the place that kept me here?” Christine created a legacy that will contribute to the vast growth she has witnessed at Roswell Park throughout the year
